Cyclect was awarded the Innovator Award from Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office for developing a Mobile Chemical Scrubber in partnership with the Singapore Civil Defence Force. The system was designed to contain and neutralise hazardous chemical releases in Singapore’s dense urban environment.
The scrubber uses high-density carbon-impregnated fibre to adsorb toxic chemicals, and was developed in response to the SCDF’s need for a rapidly deployable response capability. The trigger was the Sarin gas attacks in Japan, which raised the risk profile of chemical incidents in dense Asian cities.
The award was the first of two Innovator Awards Cyclect received from the Prime Minister’s Office — the second, for the FIDAS runway FOD detection system, came two years later. Both reflected the same engineering discipline: a real public safety problem addressed through original technical development.
