Airport FOD Detection System Supports Runway Safety and Operational Reliability

Cyclect developed and deployed FIDAS, a sensor-based runway FOD detection system with Changi Airport Group, recognised with the Prime Minister's Office Innovator Award.

Foreign object debris on runways is a persistent safety risk for aviation operations. In collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Changi Airport Group, Cyclect developed and deployed FIDAS — the Foreign Object Debris Intelligent Detection and Alarm System.

FIDAS uses LiDAR, specialised cameras and real-time analytics to detect debris on runways while sweeper vehicles operate at working speeds. The system alerts the control tower electronically and pinpoints the debris location, removing the need for operators to simultaneously drive and scan visually.

The project was recognised with the Innovator Award from Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office. It remains one of Cyclect’s clearest demonstrations of engineering innovation applied to a live safety problem in critical national infrastructure.
