1972: Electrical Projects Division and the Birth of Cyclect

In 1973 Cycle & Electric became Cyclect, moved to a 100,000 sq ft facility in Liu Fang Road, and launched an Electrical Projects Division to serve Singapore's expanding built environment.

Cycle & Electric was renamed Cyclect in 1973 and expanded to a 100,000-square-foot facility on Liu Fang Road, establishing a dedicated Electrical Projects Division for larger-scale electrical engineering work.

The renaming and expansion reflected the company’s shift from a repair and maintenance business into a structured engineering contractor. The Electrical Projects Division was positioned to pursue contracts in Singapore’s rapidly expanding built environment — housing development, industrial estates and urban infrastructure — where the government was driving significant investment.

The Liu Fang Road move also provided the physical platform for subsequent capability additions: instrumentation services, mechanical engineering and the regional expansion that followed in the late 1970s. It was the point at which Cyclect became the company it is today rather than simply the predecessor.
